How to enter users:

- The easiest way is to allow each user to register themselves when they use EYE Read for the first time.

-Another way is to enter the Surname and Name in column A using Excel.

-Another way is to read the Server 2000 user database. This way will save you a lot of time & effort.

1. Using Excel:
Type surname and name in Excel using column A only
Use SAVE AS and select ASCII text to save the file - use the folder Eyeread\users to save the file.
Now run “EyereadUsersEntry” to read the ASCII text file you saved.
The “EyereadUsersEntry” program will save the database in Login.Txt

2. Using Server 2000 Active Directory:

Right click on domain users and click on EXPORT LIST select SAVE AS and then unicode text Tab delimited.
Lets call the file for instance Hugenote.txt.

If you now load the file Hugenote.txt in Excel using IMPORT- TAB DELIMITED you will see the name and surname is in column A. You now have to delete all the other info in columns B, C, D ect so you only have the names and surnames.
Use SAVE AS and select ASCII text to save the file - use the folder Eyeread\users to save the file.
Now run “EyereadUsersEntry” to read the ASCII text file you saved.
The “EyereadUsersEntry” program will save the database in Login.Txt

Now the Login file is ready to read in Eyeread.
Only at this stage you should make all the files in the USERS folder: READ/WRITE and NOT DELETABLE and HIDDEN.

The EyereadUsersEntry function is:

The program will check for double name entries and warn you. (You can edit the user database using Excel to eliminate the double entries). It will only use the first 25 characters of the name.

It will create Login.txt containing all the user names for Eye Read.
It will create all the user login files on the USERS folder.

Some Tips to the Administrator/Installer Eyeread 1.51 18/9/2005

When you install at an existing school and the program was installed previously it means the school already have a LOGIN.TXT file. Please do not lose the login info during installation by renaming the LOGIN.TXT to another temporary name like LoginOld.TXT, now install over the older eyeread version.

After the installation just rename the LoginOld.TXT file back to Login.TXT
The LOGIN.TXT file is found in the following folder: \Eyeread\Users\Login.txt
In any way it is good practice to backup all the files in the uses folder on a CD or stiffy regularly in case the school may lose it.

Teachers can edit a child's password and class no by opening the child's file with NOTEPAD.
These files are found in the folder: \Eyeread\Users\

You can edit the file, but just keep the file in its exact format.
For instance if his password is incorrectly spelled as: JANIE and it must read: JANNIE, just edit the file with NOTEPAD and change his password to

In the EYE Read program users have to log in by typing in their name and a password. Sometimes learners forget how they logged in, they forget the password or they type their name in a different way. For instance, if they log in for the first time, and typed in the name ADAMS FRANK , the learner has to type it in exactly the same format the next time they log in, and not as Adams, Frank, or as Frank Adams or as F. Adams. The same goes for the password. They must use exactly the same password. Something they can remember easily, like their date of birth, for instance. But then they must type the password in exactly the same format the next time they log in.

What has happened at some of the schools, is that learners do not pay attention to this, and each time they log in as a new user. This result is confusion because now you can find a lot of Franks on the database, listed as ADAMS FRANK , Frank Adams, Frankadams , Adams F , F. Adams , Frankie , each with a different password etc . . .

Please make sure that the learners know how to log in correctly each time, without having to create a new name.

Please remove all "double" and unwanted names by following this procedure:

In NOTEPAD, click on FILE, OPEN, then go to E:\APPS\EDU (This may differ according to your setup)
Under EDU Folder, go to the EYEread Folder
Click on USERS, type in login.txt
Place curser on the name you want to remove, then delete the name.
Close the space left where the line was removed.
Click on save after you have removed all the unwanted names.

Alternatively, do this on each pc under EYE Read users login.

Go into EYE Read again to make sure that the unwanted names have been removed
